EAA Chapter 5
Geauga County Airport
October,2003
NEXT EAA CHAPTER MEETING ?
Monday, October 20, at 7:00 p.m.
At Geauga County Airport
PRESIDENT'S AIRSPACE
Hope all is well with everyone. This month's meeting on the 20th will
feature Dan Swalius who will talk about racing courier pigeons. Dan is
a national EAA member and flies a CGS Hawk. He is president of the
Cleveland Area Pigeon Racing Association and will bring some birds and
interesting racing stories. This is an interesting hobby that a lot of
people have never heard of. Should be fun!!!
I want to thank all the EAA 5 members who helped out and organized the
Airport Day we had on September 20th. It was a very successful day
from a point of aircraft demonstrations, pancake breakfast, young eagles,
lunch, and the pig roast. There are many people who deserve an extra
amount
of thanks for their help. It was a busy day and a marathon for all who
stayed the entire event, but I believe it was well worth it for the
community
and for the airport.
The Geauga County Airport Authority recognized and appreciated the work
of Chapter 5 and, if you haven't read the following, please take a minute
to read.
Dear Chapter 5:
The Board of Directors of the Geauga County Airport Authority
would like to thank your organization for being an integral part of
making Airport Day 2003 a huge success. The food that was prepared was
well received; the hours spent in set up, tear down and clean up were
monumental and greatly appreciated. This day would not have been
the tremendous success it was without the generous organization done
by your chapter. Your support of the event and the airport are
greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
David Ronyak, President, Geauga County Airport
Authority
For November's meeting, I want to construct two pedal planes for kids.
This would be a good activity for children who are too young to
participate in young eagles to do at our events. I have and am making
plans and will send out a list of needed materials in the next few
weeks that I would like to see members donate. I think we can knock
out the basic structures in one meeting, and finish them up over the winter.
One last thing, I am putting together an end of the year Chapter 5 DVD
for the holiday party in December. If you have any pictures (digital
or
35mm)or video of Chapter 5 events or members, please contact me. I
will
copy and download the material and get it back to you ASAP. Any media
will
do.
See you on the 20th.
Andy
RECAP YOUNG EAGLES
From the King computer?..EAA 5 broke the 1,500 young eagle mark at the
September 20th fly-in. A big thanks for everyone's efforts in keeping
our ambitious day running so smoothly. Nothing but praise was received
from the GCAA, the Commissioners, and Tim Grendell and his entourage.
Great
food, great memories, great day! Thanks, again, Katrina and Brian
MEMBERS IN THE NEWS
A big thank you to Gretchen and Chuck Reed for hosting our picnic in
August. They put on a great party as usual. Thanks to Ed Malovic
for
the great barbecue. Mark Schaden is out flying his newly restored
Pitts!
What a gorgeous site! Fly-outs continue each weekend. Randy and
Naomi
St.Julian flew to Prince Edward Island (Maritime Provinces in Canada)
for Labor Day weekend. Anyone interested in flying to Canada and have
questions, please e-mail us and we will be happy to go one and on about
our trip and what we learned. George Sulcs and his son have completed
their Airbike ultralight project and it flew without a hitch!
Congratulations on a great job! We are still trying to organize a
progressive dinner where we have appetizers at one airport, dinner at
another, and continue on to another for dessert. Anyone interested,
please e-mail the editor and we will keep you on the call list.
