EAA Chapter 5
Geauga County Airport July, 2003

July, 2003 EAA CHAPTER 5

NEXT EAA CHAPTER MEETING -
Monday, July 21, at 7:00 p.m.
At Geauga County Airport

PRESIDENT'S AIRSPACE

Hey, everyone, hope everyone's summer and your flying activities have been going well.  Thanks for all who helped at the Pancake Breakfast and Young Eagle rally.  As Clair said, "It was a very good day at the airport."  We ran out of pancake mix, had our largest 50/50 raffle ($168 to EAA5 and $168 to Jackie Corgan (?) (rumor has it she is the mother of one of our members) and flew over 115 Young Eagles.  We had quite a bit of fly-in traffic as well.  To quote Clair, again, it was "A good day with a great bunch of people," thanks to all!

For this month's meeting, July 21, at 7:00 p.m., we will have our own Juris Szulcs talk about aerobatic flying.

We have a picnic coming up August 23 and in September, we will probably combine our usual pig roast day with a 30th anniversary of the airport event which we will work on organizing along with the GCAA.  More details to follow.

On an administrative note. EAA (national) requires that local EAA chapter members also be national members.  I have a list and will be e-mailing those of you who are not national members, or who have not renewed, to please join.  This has been a policy that has been kind of overlooked in the past.  If you would join as a national member, that would be great!  Thanks!

RECAP YOUNG EAGLES

From the King computer…..you all did an awesome job on June 21st!!! What great teamwork!  Parking cars and airplanes went smoothly, the pancakes were delicious and all Young Eagle pilots and ground crew were greatly appreciated by all Young Eagles!

I do believe we flew 120 Young Eagles.  Metzenbaum school brought out 5 special needs adults and they were thrilled to fly!!!  We had a few new pilots that have flown YE in the past, not with us, and they loved Chapter 5 organization for everything!  Couldn't believe we could do so much out of an uncontrolled field!!  Way to go everyone!!

Thanks to all of you for a job well done!  September 20 is another important date to put on your calendars!!! Updates soon to follow!!!  Thanks, again, Katrina and Brian

MEMBERS IN THE NEWS

Mark Schaden has hung his engine and will soon be hanging the wings and flying his Pitts!  Has anyone heard from Vince and Lillian Welsh on their progress?  Tim Connor, Carol Gragg, Jack and Connie Plavcan and Randy and Naomi St.Julian flew to Toronto for the 4th weekend.  All had quite the experience with customs and protocol-and the adventure continued with the weather on their return home Sunday.  Anyone thinking about a flight into Canada can contact any of the above.  We have plenty of information and stories to tell!  Both Tim Connor and Jack Plavcan were some of the members who flew to the Father's Day Fly-in at Beach City for pancakes.  Port Meadville Fly-In was a blast for the usual fly-out members.  And last of all, Tim Connor and Carol Gragg are flying to Missouri in the 172 to pick up the new pooch (SO CUTE!) and visit relatives!
