What - Annual Holiday Party

When -This Saturday, Dec. 8th at 6:30pm

Why - Because we always have so much fun !

The chapter will provide baked ham, coffee, pop, table service and Joe Leonard is bringing several roast turkeys.

Things you need to bring:
A covered dish to pass
A lawn or folding chair
A single decoration for our tree
a low cost, white elephant, aviation gift.

If you have any questions about the party, call Tim at 440 897 4311

Important Announcement ! !

There is a new pilot out there !  After more delays, cancellations, and other miscellaneous vexations, than any student should have to endure, Ed Malovic successfully completed his check ride and has been elevated to the exalted rank of private pilot!

Congratulations Ed ! !

New Years Eve Party & Fly-around

We will meet at Geauga County Airport at 10:00pm for a party and fly around at midnight. This gives everyone a chance to go out for a nice dinner before coming to the airport where the real fun is. Bring a light dish (hours 'de ours, desserts, etc.)  Yes, the hardy ones really go for a brief, midnight flight around the local area - WX permitting.

November's Aircraft Fabric Covering Seminar

Last month's fabric covering seminar was a tremendous success. You may recall, it was presented by the Poly-Fiber factory representatives, Jim and Dondi Miller, who also put on the fabric workshops at Oshkosh and Sun-n-Fun.  Over sixty interested members a guests attended and spent the entire afternoon learning about the Poly-Fiber/Ceconite covering process. Everyone who wanted to, got the chance to try their hand at covering a practice piece.  Chapter 5 left a favorable impression on all our guests and we even picked up a few new members.

Upcoming Events

January meeting - 1/21/2002
Chuck Slusarczyk
will provide running commentary during a screening of the Junkyard Wars episode that he starred in.

February meeting - 2/18/2002
We'll hold another owner maintenance clinic.  Chapter members will demonstrate the proper way to clean, gap, and rotate spark plugs, plus change oil in an aircraft engine.  These are all maintenance items that can be performed by the owner of a certified aircraft.

Project Session

This past Saturday was a very productive workparty.  We put up the new wall and door for the flight planning room.  Ed put the last coat of mud on the drywall and it should be finished in time for the party.  There will be some destruction of an existing wall in January to open up the clubhouse into the newly formed room.

In the shop, several new heaters were wired and  foam insulation was installed on the garage door to help with the heat loss. Many thanks go out to the people who were able to help on Saturday, Ed Malovic, Tim Connor, Dave Tate, Bela Marosi, Jim McDermott, Wayne Link, Jack Plavcan, Martell Lindsay, Vince Welch, and better late than never Susan Cernava.

Member News

Jack Plavcan and Dave Tate spent a morning with FAA inspectors and received their airworthiness certificates.  In addition, Dave's plane made its first flight at the hands of Don Cunningham who says he can't wait to fly it some more!

Vince Welch has fitted his wings to the fuselage in our shop and Juris and Peter Sulcs will spend Peter's Christmas break covering their wings in the shop.
