At Geauga County Airport

AUGUST MEETING PROGRAM

EAA 5 Chapter Meeting/Picnic--bring the whole family! Members with airplanes will be giving rides all evening. The chapter will provide burgers, bratwurst, and chicken and Ed will be working his magic on grill. Everyone bring a covered dish to pass.

SEPTEMBER PIG ROAST, SEPTEMBER 21 AT 5:00 P.M.

Well it's time to start thinking about our annual fall pig roast.  For our new members, a little explanation.  This is NOT the pig roast at Randy and Naomi's house that you were invited to recently.  This one is a chapter fund raising event and is held at the airport.  In years past, we've held this event in October and were rarely blessed with decent weather so this year we're moving it up by a month to Saturday, Sept 21. Hopefully, this will improve attendance. We publicize it locally and usually feed around 100-200 people.  We put a pig in the roaster, the chapter buys drinks and everyone brings a covered dish to put on the table.  Chapter members roast the pig, set up the tables, park the cars, and all the other little things that need to be done.

We need a volunteer to see that this all happens. This is not a difficult job. All the pig roast chairman really does is see that the individual committee heads are organized and have what they need. Usually, there is a person in charge of publicity, pig roasting, car parking, buffet setup, table setup, and taking money.   Most of these jobs are done by members who have been doing it for years.  So we only need a chairman to see that it all comes together.

Please call Tim or any of the chapter officers if you are willing to do this job.

MILESTONES

Mark Schaden went to New York and came back with a new (to him) Pitts. Rumor has it that it’s faster than Mikes . . .

Our very own instructor, Susan Cernava, has taken the matrimonial vows with Sergio and will be moving to the West Coast within the next week. How many students does Susan leave in her wake….having put up with all of us? Best of luck to Susan and Sergio and wishing you both the best life has to offer and many, many happy years.

OSHKOSH REVIEW

EAA Chapter 5  received an award for being the oldest chapter still in existence in Ohio. Does that make you feel old, or what?       Pictures are on our website www.eaa5.org

Jack Plavcan took his gorgeous Lancair 235 to OSH and brought home the Outstanding Workmanship award for kit built aircraft. For those of you who are not familiar with homebuilt aircraft competition, this is a tremendous accomplishment. The finest aircraft in the world come to Oshkosh to be ruthlessly compared with their peers. The Outstanding Workmanship award recognizes the builder whose technical expertise and craftsmanship exceed all others.          Congratulations Jack!

It was reported that Jack called Tim and asked him what it meant when they put a note on your plane to be at the awards ceremony. AND THE WINNER IS………!!!!!

GREAT ONE TANK (more or less) TRIPS

EAA 5 members went to the 356th Fighter Group Restaurant at CAK to celebrate Jack Plavcan’s award (ah, hem, Jack and Connie were characteristically absent). McKinley Air will shuttle you to the restaurant and the food was great!  (McKinley Air charges a $10 ramp fee)

Another short trip to South Bass Island (Put-in-Bay) tacked on a $10 landing fee (up from last year).
